Combi Post (With Images!)

As I said earlier I was going to get pics, so HERE THEY ARE!! Both are fairly explanetory, but as always Ill do a run down....

First image is the random Tyranid bits that Ill be using for my color tests. Still thinking about whats going to happen post black undercoat, but prepared 4 models, so Im hoping they will be sufficient.

The second pic is the body wise completed sister (and a pretty decent pic as well). Im glad I took pics in stages as the pic for the Black vs Red arguement can begin anew. Actually the red didnt come out too badly to be honest, although a slight change in future paint applications will be nice to get a bit more 'depth' into it. Otherwise, Im quite happy with the result. Plus the flash didnt overdo the image either, was quite 'perfect' unlike the 'nid picture which is still fuzzy in some areas. Just need to finish up the backpack and that will be the first test mini done for the Sisters (and first completed mini).

That pretty much wraps this one up!

Nids on a stick..now start painting them black (I see a grey nid... and I want it painted black..or something)

The SoB looks good! Maybe some darkening in the 'holes' in the robe. So for the next model you could leave those 'holes' a bit darker (maybe even slightly black).
And some more darkening on her right hand (between the fingers)..but that could be the pic.

all in all: GJ.
ooh clicky clicky!

Well I'll try and get those 'nids undercoated tonight and then see what I want to do tomorrow (planning some possible paint schemes right now).

I agree about the 'holes' in the robe, which was the main issue I pointed out on. So next time I'll make sure those are kept black when the red coats start coming on. Some of the recesses, like the hand you mentioned arent as dark as they should be (although they really stand out in the pic), so I'll try and make sure some of those areas are retained in future models. Usually on a marine, the recesses would be very distinct black lining, but I didnt feel the same methodology would apply well for the glove. However, I will see what I can do for the next set of models.

Overall, Im pretty impressed, the colors work well, and it has a good color balance (the one thing I didn't like about the black was that it felt over powering). Hopefully the next set of models will look alot better as I get more accustomed and used to painting such finer details (unlike marines).

Ok, that last reply I made was done just over an hour ago and I already just got off my painting chair and did some work. The SoB backpack is now undercoated (well the bit thats visible) as well as the 4 'nids. Must admit, Im glad I changed brushes after the FIRST 'nid or else Id probably still be undercoating. And yeah, I know, the concept of paint in a can would make things ALOT easier, but ehh, I dunno, I dont like spray painting. If I wanna spray paint, Ill be some punk dude. So yeah, undercoats are done, which is funnily enough 50% of the model done, thank gawd I had this theme in mind cos this will probably stand to be the first quickly painted army Ill ever do (for now).

So Im getting there! Tomorrow might be a metal dry brush day, which Ill do on two models only and then take things from there.

hmm nid-on-a-stick? Nice to see things can turn around, eh?

good job on the SoB, and as AB said, the depth needs work, but you said that yourself too, so no worries there.

I've been on stuff yesterday too, my first veteran is nearly done, I'll post his ass asap when he's done (he just needs some scripting)

Yeah, Nid on a stick aint too bad at all. But so far, so good!

I had another look at the Sob today and I think I could still easily do the shading on that other glove, since I did do a bit of black lining on the other glove. So yeah, depth wise I can do a bit more and I dont expect the model to look perfect, although it definitely looks pretty darn good, especially knowing my skills have improved over the year.

Lookin' forward to seeing your first vet.

Hi TAS (and you others! ;) )!

Looks great, the Sister turned out very nice, can´t say much else as it´s far better than I can do..!
How do you plan to fix the base by the way..?

As for the ´nidz on sticks, I´ll warm up my Scorcha..! ;D
They also looks nice! Cool colours and that base looks good, City Fight..?

Goddam Bug-eyes! ;P

I just painted three Lobbas (but not the krew) and by this and your nice stuff, I got inspired to re-start my BLOG! Wait and see....

Yo Old Man!! Where ya been? Hadnt seen you in a few days and I was getting concerned!!

Heh, The Sister turned out ok (for the first one) and Im quite happy with the results. It isnt GD material, but its good for table top, thats for sure (well I think it is). With minor changes in the painting methodology for future minis, I think things will get a tad bit better for sure.

Base wise, I was thinking of tiling, havent done a tile base yet (guess I might start on hers) and take things from there. Maybe a lil bit of rubble here and there and things should be ok.

Heh, those 'Nids were bought off Ebay and came to me in that condition, so I hadnt touched them at all but glue them to the "sticks". As I told Arjan, I was somewhat 'argh' about the pic, as the look of it was something I was hoping to achieve. But hopefully, Ill be able to recreate the scheme in my way and have it stand out alot better. Basing wise, as I said, that was all done before me, so yeah... :P Although Im not sure what I would do for 'Nid bases. I guess I'd take inspiration from My theme and maybe make the base some what bio-organic etc.

Nice work on the painting, cant wait to see and Im glad you are re-inspired to start a new blog (just dont forget the Password etc :P). Ill have to change the link on my page for the new addy, but Ill head over and have a look!

On a more r/l note, Im glad to see this has been some what of a Dec '05 Re-inspiration tour for some, as I find myself right now, typing this reply on the lab computer. What does this mean? I think I possess the 'will' to finish everything. Ain't gonna be easy, but yeah, I feel good about it.

Yes, Re-inspiration is good.

Heh, we all need reinspiration in the study category. I'll be heading out later on myself (just woke up and its 7.30pm here).

But yeah, hit Tobias' blog and I finally realized how he did the pic and caption bit too *shakes head*
